Wire thefts leave Hacienda Heights residents without phone, internet service

Residents of Hacienda Heights are pleading for help after copper wire thefts has left them without phone and internet service for months.

The wire thefts have left some customers without service for seven months, according to the Hacienda Heights Improvement Association.

As KTLA's Kimberly Cheng reports, the area already has spotty cell phone service, making landline telephones of the utmost importance, especially in cases of emergency.

"It can affect businesses and it's a safety and security concern," said Ali Wiener, an HHIA board member.

Wiener added that in some cases, wire repairs are performed, only for the new wire to be stolen yet again within a day.

The communications company whose equipment is being targeted, Frontier Communications, did not immediately respond to a request for comment by KTLA.
