Style Curly Hair | How To
Style Curly Hair with a Hair Dryer Diffuser

There are plenty of options for styling curly hair. If your preference is to use a hairdryer, I recommend using a diffuser. You can attach a diffuser to your hair dryer or get a hair dyer with built-in diffuser.
Either way, a diffuser will disperse the air to reduce friction on the cuticle and prevent frizz.
If you’re a regular reader of my curly hair blogs, you’ll know that keeping the cuticle smooth and free from damage is key to getting frizz-free styling results.
The best way to prepare your curly hair for styling and avoid frizz is to deep condition your hair in advance. Deep condition curly hair with Restore and Shine Hair Masque to add moisture and smooth your hair before styling.

1. Condition your Curls as you Style
Give your hair 2 to 3 spritzes of Styling Mist for Glossy Finish. This moisturising styling mist will give your curls a super shiny finish.
I recommend spraying the mist in the area just over your head and letting it settle on to your hair. You can also turn your head upside down and spray underneath.
My ethos for styling is ‘less is more’ so don’t overdo it with styling products. Keep it light.
2. Use a Diffuser
Once you’ve applied your styling product you can get going with the hairdryer and diffuser.
As I’ve said a diffuser disperses the air to help reduce friction on the cuticle and prevents frizz. The best way to avoid friction is to gently hold your curls with your fingers to meet the warm air from the hair dryer. Avoid the diffuser touching your curls as this can lead to excessive drying.
Hold your hair in your hands a section at a time, moving it towards the hair dryer diffuser without touching it.
Keep the hairdryer on a warm setting, but not the hottest. Moderation is vital. The best advice I can give you, at this point, is not to over-dry your hair.
This is where ‘less is more’ is vital. There’s a sweet spot when drying hair. At the point when your hair texture starts to feel more fly away, you’ve probably over-dried your hair. The trick is to stop before that happens.
Over drying the hair leaves it frizzy and it’s the most common mistake when it comes to styling curly hair.As soon as the hair is dry, it’s time to stop. If you’re not sure when to stop just try reducing the drying time by 30 seconds or even a minute and see how the hair looks and feels.
Play around with timing and see what gives you the best results.
3. Use your Fingers
Once you’ve finished drying, the hair will still have some warmth, even on a cooler setting.
At this point you can flip the hair to one side or create partings.
Use your fingers to gently move the hair into place. Once it’s there leave it to settle and enjoy your freshly styled curls!
