HACIENDA HEIGHTS - At least one home was evacuated after a main burst and sent copious amounts of water and mud all over a neighborhood.

A sizable sinkhole developed at East Edgeridge Drive and East Tamarix Drive and the intersection remains closed Tuesday morning, according to Sgt. Torres of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Industry Station.

Firefighters were called to investigate the main break around 6:25 p.m. and we’re on scene by 6:31 p.m., according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

In addition to the above-listed closure, Avocado Terrace and East Edgeridge Drive is also closed.

At least one residence was evacuated. Red Cross help was declined by the people in the residence, Torres told SGV CityWatch.

Rivers of mud descended on several homes, but the level of damage is not publicly known.

Firefighters and the Los Angeles County Department of Public Works were able to shut off the water soon after the break.
