The Winnipeg Jets saw their four-game road trip come to a close on a negative note, falling 4-2 to the Carolina Hurricanes Sunday afternoon.

Alex Iafallo and Adam Lowry scored for Winnipeg. Iafallo cut the deficit to two goals in the third period, making it 3-1. Lowry added another with less than a minute to go in regulation, making it a more respectable 4-2 contest. Connor Hellebuyck finished his night with 23 saves.

The Hurricanes saw their recent trade deadline acquisitions do most of the damage. Mark Jankowski, who came over from Nashville, scored a pair of goals to give Carolina a 2-0 lead. Former Dallas Star Wyatt Johnston added one more to extend the lead to 3-0, which turned out to be the game-winning goal. Winnipeg native Seth Jarvis sealed the win with an empty-net goal, his 25th of the season. Canes goaltender Frederik Andersen made 20 stops in the victory.

“They played a good game,” said Morgan Barron. “I think our execution was just a little bit off. I don’t think there were any issues with our game plan, but it just kind of got away from what we wanted to do for a little bit.”

Winnipeg went 0-for-3 on the power play, while Carolina had six chances but converted only once, going 1-for-6.

Newly acquired defenseman Luke Schenn was not in the lineup. The Jets traded for him from the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for a 2026 second-round pick and a 2027 fourth-round selection.

The Jets had a goal called back at 6:14 of the second period when Cole Perfetti tipped a point shot past Andersen. However, his stick was deemed to be above the crossbar.

“That was a close one. I wouldn’t have been surprised either way, honestly,” Perfetti said. “I wasn’t surprised that it was a high stick, it was close. Half my blade was over the net, half my blade was under it.”

“Those are crap shoots for me when it comes to those high sticks,” Arniel added. “We thought it was a goal, but it is what it is.”

The Jets will look to get back into the win column this upcoming Tuesday when they return home to face the New York Rangers at 7:00 p.m. CT.
