Travelling with Pets

Planning any family trips for the upcoming holidays? We know that pets are part of our family, and more and more people are choosing to bring their dogs along for the ride. Thanks to an abundance of pet-friendly short-term rentals and hotels, it’s easier than ever to include your pup on your adventures! With this in mind, we’ve compiled a list of everything you’ll need for a stress-free trip with your four-legged friend.

1. Vet Records

Having a copy of your pet’s health records showing up-to-date vaccination records could come in handy, especially if your pet gets lost from you during the trip.

2. ID tags

Make sure that your pet’s collar has an identification tag with a current phone number(s) and rabies tag. All puppies from Heartrock Labradoodles come microchipped, so be sure that the chip has been registered and stays current.

3. Collars, Leashes/Harness

Pack a durable collar and leash to allow your pet to explore your new surroundings with you. Having an extra collar (with ID tags) could come in handy should one get lost.

4. Carrier/Crate/Bedding

A safe, reliable carrier or crate will give your pet a safe place to retire and relax when they need some downtime. Be sure to include soft bedding or blankets that they are used to at home.

5. Medication

Should your pet need medication, be sure to pack enough for the duration of the trip. Having the prescription information could come in handy as well should a refill be needed.

6. Food & Water

Your pet is used to their specific food, so plan to pack more than enough to cover the duration of the trip to avoid any digestive issues. We recommend packing several additional days’ worth of food should any delays occur. For the highest quality dog food, we recommend Life's Abundance. Water is a must have, pack a large water bottle to ensure your pet always has fresh water available.

7. Bowls

Collapsible bowls are wonderful while travelling. Be sure to have separate bowls for food and water.

8. Toys

Throw in a few of your pet’s durable, high quality toys to help keep them stimulated and entertained.

9. Potty Necessities

Pack plenty of dog bags or puppy pads to avoid any messes and keep your pet comfortable and clean.

10. Weather-appropriate gear

Depending on your destination, check the weather in advance to be prepared. Heading to the beach? A lifejacket could come in handy. Is snow in the forecast? A sweater and dog booties will help keep your pup comfortable.

11. Towels

Having an extra towel on hand could help clean up any emergency messes, muddy paws or to cover furniture.

12. Luggage

A simple duffle bag to store all of your dog’s necessities will help you keep track and easily access everything. Include contact information on the bag as well in case it gets lost.
