Step-by-Step Guide: DIY Fold-Up Wallet Design Doodler Tutorial

• Vinyl or leather
• Craft felt
• Heat and bond or other iron-on bonding material
• Scissors
• Cutaway embroidery stabilizer
• Embroidery thread
• Design Doodler

Insert artwork at 350x250mm

• Select the load backdrop tool
• Navigate to your file location
• Choose the artwork file
• Resize to 250×350 mm (artwork border size is larger than the actual image)
• Change the opacity to your desired level

Digitize around the center rectangle- the end tapers slightly to slide under the tab.

• Choose a color
• Select the running stitch brush
• Choose the line option

Digitize around the small rectangle.

• Select the running stitch brush
• Select the square option
• Doodle the square using the artwork as a guide

Digitize the tab

• Select the running stitch brush
• Choose the line tool
• Digitize the tab using the artwork as a guide

Add top stitching. The top stitching will give more stability and hold down the strap so the flap can tuck under.

• Select the run bean brush
• Select the line or square tool
• Doodle the large shape using the line tool
• Doodle the small slot using the square tool

Add a name using the Text tool or doodle a design for personalization.

• Select the text tool
• A text box appears
• Open the properties tool
• Add your text
• Resize to 25 mm (1 inch)
• Choose your font

Save your design as a JDX file and then save it in your machine file format.

Step 1: Start by bonding the craft felt to the vinyl back.

Step 2: Trim off a 0.5 x 4-inch bonded strip as a strap.

Step 3: Hoop a piece of tearaway stabilizer

Step 4: Secure the bonded vinyl/craft felt piece in the hoop using a light mist of temporary embroidery spray.

Step 5: Insert in machine.

Step 6: Stitch the outline.

Step 7: Stop the machine and, using painter’s tape, place the strap where indicated

Step 8: Return to the machine and stitch through the ends of the strap.

Step 9: Remove from the hoop and remove the stabilizer.

Step 10: Trim around the wallet, leaving approximately 1/8 inch.

Step 11: Trim the excess from the strap.

Step 12: Carefully cut the slot in the flap.

Step 13: Fold up your new personalized wallet.
