Report: Washington Capitals Acquire Anthony Beauvillier From Pittsburgh Penguins

The Washington Capitals acquired left-wing Anthony Beauvillier from the Pittsburgh Penguins for the Capitals’ 2025 second-round pick before the NHL Trade Deadline on Friday, according to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Freidman. The 27-year-old is on an expiring contract that counts $1.25 million against the NHL salary cap.

Beauvillier has recorded 13 goals, 20 points, .5679 five-on-five expected goals-for percentage in 63 games after signing in Pittsburgh on July 1, 2024.

In 613 career regular-season games with Pittsburgh, the New York Islanders, Vancouver Canucks, Chicago Blackhawks, and Nashville Predators, Beauvillier has 129 goals and 266 points.

Beauvillier has 16 goals and 31 points in 55 career postseason games, including 14 goals and 27 points in 41 from 2020-21 when the Islanders made back-to-back conference final round appearances.

The acquisition gives Washington, who ranks second in the NHL with an average of 3.58 goals-per-game (and just 0.02 behind Tampa Bay Lightning for first) and is tied for 10th with a .237 power-play efficiency, some depth as their third-line has been a revolving door this season. Washington lost left-wing Jakub Vrana on waivers to Nashville on Thursday.

Washington acquired center Lars Eller from Pittsburgh for their 2027 third-round pick and the Chicago Blackhawks’ 2025 fifth-round pick on November 12. Beauvillier and Eller posted a .5669 five-on-five expected goals-for percentage in 45:40 together at five-on-five before Eller got traded to Washington.

The Capitals lead the Metropolitan Division by 10 points with a game in hand on the Carolina Hurricanes and Eastern Conference by eight with a game in hand on the Florida Panthers. The team hosts the Detroit Red Wings on Friday (7 PM ET, Monumental Sports Network in-market, ESPN+ out-of-market).

Washington still has the Boston Bruins’ third-round pick in June, which was acquired in the trade that sent Dmitry Orlov and Garnet Hathaway to Boston on February 23, 2023.

The trade deadline is at 3 PM ET.
