Crochet a wonderful mock cable crochet blanket with this easy pattern! Very beginner-friendly using only chains, slip stitches and single crochet.
Design Story and Inspiration for This Easy Crochet Blanket Pattern
I have always loved cables, both in knitting and in crochet, and have wanted to make a cabled blanket out of blanket yarn for a long time, but I know that cables can be difficult for a lot of people, so I set out to find a way to create cables that were beginner-friendly.
I saw this method of creating cables in a stitch dictionary and just knew it would be perfect with blanket yarn, so I set out to design EIGHT sizes of this pattern so you can make it anywhere from lovey to king size!! It’s SO easy!
Yarn Options for This Beginner-Friendly Blanket Pattern
I used Bernat Blanket yarn for this project. I had some Vintage White laying around that I bought quite a long time ago thinking I would eventually make a blanket out of it but none of the stitch patterns I tried seemed to work.
So it sat in the stash for a long time. One of my goals this year is to use up my stash as much as possible, so when I saw those skeins of blanket yarn I just knew I had to use them – and this pattern was born!
Feel free to use any super bulky (category #6) yarn that gets gauge (but I bet you have some skeins of this in your stash – its super popular!).

Pattern Details for the Mock Cable Crochet Blanket
This blanket is really worked in two parts (well, three if you count the border separately!). First, you make the body of the blanket with nothing more than single crochet and chains. You create chain spaces for the cables that you will come back and work surface slip stitch into.
Once the body of the blanket is complete to the size you desire (see all 8 sizes below), then you will work the mock cables using surface slip stitch. Finally, a simple single crochet border is added. Don’t worry, there is a video tutorial showing you how to do all of this!
