It’s erupting again in Iceland. This is what you need to know.

Not even a year since we had the last one, and in Iceland, Mother Nature is serving another melting pot of lava! It’s in the same area as the 2021 eruption. We call this one the Merardalir eruption and it’s believed to be at least twice as big as the Fagradalsfjall eruption of 2021. To fully enjoy the spectacle one can hike to a great vantage point and see the eruption. Pay attention to the wind, if you have it into your face from the eruption, it’s really bad. You will get the smoke from the volcano and it can be anywhere from very unpleasant to dangerous. Follow signs carefully and if in doubt, ask a police officer or a member og the SAR team. Best of course is to be in the hands of a skilled and experienced guide. Be especially careful about two things, never ever step on the new lava field. It may just have a thin crust and hot, melted lava underneath. Secondly, stay away from low points in the landscapes for that’s where the deadly gas may accumulate. Avoid funnelling valleys. But, if you have the chance you should absolutely go see it. Words and photos do not describe this unbelievable sight. Want to get our help and plan a private volcano tour from Reykjavík?
