Happy International Women’s Day

Yesterday was International Women’s Day and I was thrilled to be surrounded by a group of strong, intelligent, kind, impactful women.

This past week, the Healthy Children Project held an educational retreat for our faculty and evaluators. We spent 7 glorious days working together on several projects and learning about research updates. As I reflect on our time together I am struck by how much it means to be surrounded by women that support women. There is something about the energy of a group of women that can be so uplifting and soul rejuvenating.

We talked about the work each of us is doing in our respective communities to support families and their feeding choices. We laughed. We learned about the work Healthy Children Project did in Uganda. We ate delicious food. We practiced our own skills as evaluators for the Lactation Counselor Training Course. We laughed some more. They say laughter is the best medicine and I think it is absolutely true. The time spent laughing with one another not only builds bonds of friendship, but helps us release tension we often didn’t even know we had.

Here are a few photos from the week. I hope you enjoy them, particularly the ones that look like breasts. Because let me tell you, when you get a group of lactation colleagues together, breasts are seen everywhere! Occupational hazard.

So Happy International Women’s Day. I hope you found yourself in the company of some amazing women. And I hope you remember, you too are amazing!
