Right now, De’Aaron Fox is the biggest player for the Sacramento Kings, but it might not always be that way.
Fox knows he has to make a choice about signing an extension with the team and he gave an honest answer to The Athletic when talking about that.
According to NBACentral, Fox laid it out and made it clear that he’s playing a “wait and see” approach to an extension:
“I just want to make sure where we’re at, because people have seen the league — like, turnover of a team can happen in the matter of a month or two or six months. I mean, if we were contending for a championship, (it might be different). Like, obviously, (the Boston Celtics’) Jayson (Tatum) just won a championship or (the Miami Heat’s) Bam (Adebayo), who has been to the finals twice. I’m just using people who are in my class (who have signed extensions). They’ve already kind of been through that, done that. So yeah, they have that security of (having done) that. For me, obviously, we’re continuing to build.”
De’Aaron Fox isn’t rushing to sign an extension with Sacramento, wanting to see if they can build a contender, using Jayson Tatum and Bam Adebayo’s situations as examples

Fox obviously wants to contend for a championship but the Kings still have a way to go before that is possible.
They are definitely playoff contenders again after years of being out of the mix in the West but they will need to improve before they are heading to the Finals.
All of this will impact Fox’s place with the team and how much he asks for with his next contract.
He knows he’s a vital part of Sacramento’s plans and he wants to be paid accordingly.
At the same time, he wants to play for a team that has a chance of winning a title.
Fox will weigh his options and make the choice that is right for him.
This answer probably doesn’t make Kings fans very happy because they don’t want even the slightest possibility of him leaving Sacramento.
