Cuter By the Day

The babies are now 3 weeks old and have turned into “real puppies.” When they are born their ears and eyes are closed. Now, recently opened, they are taking in their little world. New sounds tend to startle at this age. They aren’t always sure what they are looking at. They still rely heavily on smell and taste for discovery….which means giving lots of kisses!

At three weeks, Noli’s puppies still spend most of their time sleeping. But when they are awake they are curious with us and hungry with Noli. They love to explore our laps and lick our toes, hands, faces… Whatever they find. Noli is an exemplary mom, very attentive and relaxed.

They are still tricky to photograph at this age because they mostly want to burrow into something warm. And black puppies are a little trickier than yellow to take good images of. This boy and girl were pretty cooperative.

The puppies just moved Sunday into their “big puppy” area instead of the whelping box. They were ready for a little room to move around.they are enjoying their new space, right outside the back door in our heated and cooled “puppy room” where I can always find my kids reading a book in a pile of puppies or visiting in their free moments. And the puppies come snuggle with us on the couch as well. They are not ready for big open spaces or outdoors yet but laps are the best!

The puppies started their first solid food today, kibble softened with milk replacer. They were very interested but not that good at actually swallowing it yet. It takes a few tries!
