Convicted felon found with over 2 lbs of marijuana, loaded gun in Silver Spring; police say

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. (DC News Now) -- A convicted felon was arrested after they were found with marijuana and a loaded gun in downtown Silver Spring Tuesday night, according to the Montgomery County Department of Police (MCPD).

Police said at around 10 p.m. on Feb. 25, officers were observing the area when they noticed a suspected drug deal.

The officers stopped the suspected buyer and discovered they had marijuana, cocaine, and prescription pills. The person also admitted to buying drugs.

MCPD said as the person ,who allegedly sold the drugs, tried to get away and nearly rammed into a police cruiser with their car. The person was eventually arrested.

Police found over two pounds of marijuana and a stolen loaded gun in the car. According to Montgomery County police, the gun was reported stolen from another jurisdiction.

In a post on X, Captain Jason Cokinos, MCPD 3rd District commander, noted that the suspect was a convicted felon and was previously convicted on handgun charges in the past. They also did not live in the county.

They were taken to Central Processing and booked on felony charges.

"We will continue to root out criminal activity, especially getting dangerous guns off the street, in order to make our community safer for all," said the commander in the post.
