3 Easy Salon Techniques to Add Volume to Hair

Add Volume to Hair | Brown Hair Curly Bob

Add volume to hair using easy salon techniques to create root lift.

Small changes in the approach to styling your hair can create the root lift that doesn’t come naturally. Embracing small changes can give your hair a serious volume boost.

Add Volume To Hair | Long Blonde

Start by prepping your hair. Wash and condition using the right shampoo and conditioner for your hair type. Squeeze the excess water out of your hair with a towel. Hair should be damp but not dripping wet.

Spritz a couple of pumps of Ogario London Styling Mist for Natural Hold and Volume. The super light mist can be sprayed above the head to fall on your hair, without leaving any residue or stickiness, even on very fine hair. Blow dry as normal, ensuring you don’t over dry the hair. Hair should still be warm when you apply the techniques below.

1. Place Velcro Rollers at an Angle

I use Velcro rollers to add volume to different areas of the hair. When you apply Velcro rollers at an angle they make the roots sit up, giving you lift at the roots. Four Velcro rollers should be enough. Place two at the crown and one at each side.

Once the rollers are in place, use the hairdryer for a quick blast of heat, let the hair cool and gently remove the rollers.

Heat changes the hair structure and when it cools the lift should hold.

2. Add Volume to Hair with a Brush

Take a section of hair where you want to create root lift, place the brush at the end of the hair, roll down to roots.

Blast the root area with the hairdryer for a few seconds, leave to cool and gently remove the brush.

3. Tease Hair to add Volume with a Tail Comb

Using a fine toothcomb, gently back-comb the hair at the crown or the sides, wherever you want to create lift.

Don’t go right to the roots, position the comb about half an inch away, ensuring you back-comb in small sections, being as gentle as possible.

Hairstyles for Fine Hair | Expert Advice

Hairstyles for fine hair work best when there is texture and movement in the hair. Well cut and balanced hairstyles are easier to style at home and generally hold the style better. But that’s not the whole story. Mid length and longer hairstyles can work just as well for fine hair but,

Norris Ogario

Norris Ogario is founder and Creative Director of Ogario London. Developed in his London salon, the Ogario London haircare products reflect his belief that hydration is the key to fixing most hair problems. Hydrated hair can be styled with ease. Plus, hydration leaves hair shiny and healthy. Norris has over 35 years of hair know-how. With expertise in all hair types; from dry hair to fine or grey hair, from frizzy hair to damaged or bleached hair, curly hair and afro hair, Norris has created a healthy hair blog to share his expert advice.

I write about all aspects of healthy, shiny hair. From preventing frizzy hair to stopping split ends and styling bob hairstyles I share my experience of how to get the best from hair.

Whether I’m working with hair, writing about hair or developing hair care products I stay true to 3 principles.

1. Less is More

This is a principle I have adhered to all my hairdressing career and it gets the best results. I like to minimise the heat stress to hair from heated styling tools and take a simpler approach to styling. Over working the hair can leave it dry, damaged and flat. A simple approach is the best way to add volume to hair and keep hair looking and feeling smooth and shiny.

2. Hair needs Moisture

Moisture is the foundation of good hair care. Hair needs a routine of deep conditioning to stay frizz free and retain flexibility and strength. When it has moisture, hair elasticity is maintained, making hair easier to style.

3. Great Hair Care is Holistic

Holistic in the context of hair care is about making sure we eat a healthy, balanced diet and that we feed our hair with nourishing products. Maintaining hydration in the body contributes to good quality hair growth. Using nourishing hair products ensures our hair can retain moisture.

You’ll see these principles threaded through my blogs. My goal is to share the simplest tools and techniques to give you easy ways to care for and style your hair at home.

Ogario London is a salon developed range of natural hair care products. Because we are passionate about our products, delivering the best results is at the heart of what we do.
